Summary
When using MessageGuard with Microsoft Exchange, you first need to configure Exchange to perform "journaling" on the messages going through the Exchange system. These instructions are for Exchange 2013 only. Articles for Exchange 2010, 2007, 2003, and 2000 are also located in our Knowledgebase, just search for whatever version you have.

First enable Pop 3 services that are set to manual by default
- On the computer running the Client Access server role:
1. In the Services snap-in, in the console tree, click Services (Local).
2. In the result pane, right-click Microsoft Exchange POP3, and then click Properties.
3. On the General tab, under Startup type, select Automatic, and then click Apply.
4. Under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.
- On the computer running the Mailbox server role:
1. In the Services snap-in, in the console tree, click Services (Local).
2. In the result pane, right-click Microsoft Exchange POP3 Backend, and then click Properties.
3. On the General tab, under Startup type, select Automatic, and then click Apply.
4. Under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.
- Open Exchange Admin Center
- Click "Servers" on left
- Highlight your database
- Click the pencil above to edit
- A new window pops up
- Click Maintenance
- Select Journal Recipient
- Done
